Naneghat

Naneghat is an ancient mountain pass located near the border of Pune and Thane districts in Maharashtra. Dating back to the Satavahana dynasty, this route once served as a vital trade link between the Konkan coast and the Deccan plateau. The name “Naneghat” translates to “coin pass,” as traders used to pay tolls here. Today, Naneghat is a popular trekking destination known for its rugged terrain, reverse waterfall phenomenon during monsoon, and panoramic views of the Western Ghats. The trail features rock-cut caves, ancient inscriptions in Brahmi script, and water cisterns that highlight its historical significance. Surrounded by lush greenery during the monsoon and misty mountain landscapes, Naneghat attracts trekkers, nature lovers, photographers, and history enthusiasts alike.
