Harishchandragad

Located in the Ahmednagar district and extending into Pune district and Thane district, Harishchandragad is one of Maharashtra’s most famous trekking destinations. Sitting at an elevation of approximately 1,422 meters, the fort is part of the majestic Western Ghats. With origins dating back to ancient times, the fort features historic temples, caves, and inscriptions that reflect its rich cultural and spiritual significance. The trek to the top is both challenging and rewarding, passing through dense forests, rocky patches, and scenic plateaus. The highlight of the fort is the dramatic Konkan Kada—a massive concave cliff offering mesmerizing sunset views and the famous cloud inversion phenomenon. The site also houses the sacred Harishchandreshwar Temple, showcasing exquisite ancient architecture, and the mystical Kedareshwar Cave, known for its giant Shiva lingam surrounded by water.
